Return To Harpos March 16, 2010

The Victoria Blues Society is raising funds to send the Bill Johnson Blues Band to the International Blues Challenge. "Return to Harpo's" is the theme of a fundraiser which will be held at Upstairs Cabaret - formerly Harpo's - a night club fondly remembered by long time Victoria residents for its world class live music.

The International Blues Challenge (IBC) is the continent's biggest and most respected showcase for blues musicians ready to take their act to the national stage.The Bill Johnson Blues Band willrepresent the Victoria Blues Society at the IBC Semi-Finals in Memphis, TN.

The awards will be presented byThe Blues Foundation February 2 - 5, 2011. It will be the 27th year of blues musicians from around the world competing for cash, prizes, and industry recognition.

The band is made up of Maple Blues Award nominee Bill Johnson, vocals and acoustic/electric/slide guitar, Ric Erickson, vocals and bass, John Hunter, vocals and drums, and Darcy Philips, vocals and keyboards.

Tickets:$10 available at Darcy's Pub - 1127 Wharf St.,Lyle's Place, Island Audio -1620 Blanshard St. and Big Charlie. Victoria Blues Society memberships will be available: $20 for one year.

PARTY TIME

Get your dancin' shoes on cause "Lightning" Len Siemens and Ernie Niederer have secured the Prince Edward Legion (Langford Legion) Auditorium for a Victoria Music Hall of Fame fundraiser and dance on Saturday April 24, 2010. Both Lightning Express and Cruel Shoes Rock "N" Blues Band will perform with some "special guests" sitting in throughout the evening. Tickets are $15. each or $20. a couple and are now available at Alpine Auto Repair in Langford, Long & McQuade on Hillside or e mail [email protected].
