Memphis Bound February 22, 2010

In an announcement on February 10, 2010 the Victoria Blues Society pledged to sponsor local favourite The Bill Johnson Blues Band to the 2011 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. The IBC will be presented by The Blues Foundation February 2 - 5, 2011. It will be the 27th year of blues musicians from around the world competing for cash, prizes, and industry recognition.
The IBC and its affiliated organizations (mostly blues societies) search for the blues band and solo/duo blues act most ready to perform on a national stage, but just needing that extra break. This year 110 bands and 80 solo/duo acts entered, filling the clubs on Beale Street in Memphis for the semi-finals on Thursday and Friday and the finals at the Orpheum Theatre on Saturday. It is expected at least that many will compete in 2011
The band is made up of Maple Blues Award nominee Bill Johnson, vocals and acoustic/electric/slide guitar,Ric Erickson, vocals and bass, John Hunter, vocals and drums, and Darcy Philips, vocals and keyboards.

R&B Fest

It's that time of year again when Sharon Wadsworth and John Fisher produce the R & B Fest, this Saturday February 27 at Hermann's on View St. Tickets are available by e mailing [email protected]. Proceeds go towards the "NEED CRISIS AND INFORMATION LINE" and it's a small venue that always sells out so get your tickets now!

PARTY TIME

It's been a while since we've had a good old fashioned social event so "Lightning" Len Siemens and Ernie Neiderer have secured the Prince Edward Legion (Langford Legion) Auditorium for a Victoria Music Hall of Fame fundraiser and dance on Saturday April 24, 2010. Both Lightning Express and Cruel Shoes Rock "N" Blues Band will perform with some "special guests" sitting in throughout the evening. Ticket are $15. each or 2 for $20. and will be available Friday February 26th. Mark that date in your calendar and check back to find out how to get your tickets, it'll be a blast.

The Provincial Capital Commission (PCC) and Downtown Victoria Business Association (DVBA) have initiated a review of an opportunity to host a future JUNO Awards celebration in the Capital Region.
