An Old Celebration December 3, 2009
Todays feature picture is the cover of Roy Forbes (aka Bim) and Connie Kaldor's 'New Songs for an Old Celebration', released back in the fall of 1985 on the Vancouver Folk Music Festival's Aural Tradition Records. Track #4 is "The Christmas Song" by Mel Torme.
Here's a story from Norm MacPherson on how it got on the album. " There was a space for one more tune and they asked me if I had anything to offer. I had done 'The Xmas Song' a couple of times with the Bill Sample/ Noos Pizza Band a few times, so I quickly figured out what I thought the chords were on acoustic and overdubbed the melody on my Strat. I've actually heard it on CBC a few times. The acoustic is a J50 with a piece of coat hanger as a bridge (very bright!)..... thank you Mel Torme.".
Unfortunatly, nowhere on the album does Norm receive credit for his work so let's put that info on record where it belongs! Thank you Norm for sharing this song and story with us at such an appropriate time of year.
