The Knobs October 10, 2009

A power trio based out of Vancouver featuring a solid Victoria drummer, this group borrowed the name "Led Zepplin" used while playing early in their career. The Nobs was a temporary name used by the rock band Led Zeppelin for a single concert in Copenhagen, Denmark, during the band's 1970 European concert tour. Controversy over using the 'Zeppelin' name originated from Frau Eva von Zeppelin, a descendent of Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin, creator of the Zeppelin aircraft. Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page commented to the music newspaper Melody Maker that Frau Eva von Zeppelin initially took issue during an early Led Zeppelin concert performance in Copenhagen in October of 1969, when she tried (unsuccessfully) to stop a television appearance. As a gesture of good will, the band invited her to meet with them. The meeting was apparently a cordial one. However, upon leaving the studio, her anger reignited when she saw the cover of the group's first album - the exploding Hindenburg aircraft. Frau von Zeppelin felt the band's use of Zeppelin was insulting and dishonoured her family name. As a result, hostility toward the rock group continued...

OCTOBER IS DONATION DRIVE MONTH

That's right folks, we are underway with our annual month long fundraiser. Since 2003, the Royal City Music Project and the Victoria Music Hall of Fame have relied on donations to maintain these vital undertakings and this month, we are hoping to raise enough money to continue our good work for another year. It costs time and money to research and restore the audio and video that is enjoyed on the website and there is lots more to come including some unfinished documentaries and a major upgrade to the displays at Darcy's Pub, the brick & mortar home of the Victoria Music Hall of Fame. If you enjoy the website or take in any of the related events, please help us continue by sending in a donation. Cheques and money orders can be sent to the address listed in the contact tab on the website. On November 1st, we will put all those who contributed into a draw for gift certificates donated by local restaurants and hotels. Thank you, your contributions are greatly appreciated!
