It's been known for a long time that companies have used commercial advertising with subliminal messages to sell their products. So much so, that even parody's of it became popular as a tongue-in-cheek way to get their message across. It's not as common practice today as it was years ago (Nudge, Nudge ... Wink, Wink)!
