Vancouver-based pianist/composer/improviser Paul Plimley is a national treasure. He plays the piano inside, outside, and all around and creates a formidable sonic architecture in the process. Plimley has absorbed the contributions of his key influences (Ellington, Monk, Silver, Keith Jarrett, Bill Evans, Stockhausen, Zappa, Don Van Vliet and Cecil Taylor) and synthesized American improvised music traditions into a number of personal stylistic approaches. He’s recorded numerous CDs, including a marvellous solo CD on Songlines He also plays guitar, marimba, vibraphone and electronic music.
