I remember a few tidbits from the local music scene that perhaps someone knows or would like to know. Now this recollection is rather hazy so please bear with me:

- Sugarcane actually played a concert at Victoria High School in (I believe the early 70's). I remember coming across one of their old annuals and there was a picture of them on a stage on one of the school's smaller fields located on the Fernwood Rd. side.

- There is also a current teacher who in the 1970's was involved with 2 local Victoria bands. I can't remember how many of the people in the first band went onto the second but they played gigs and made a demo which this teacher had. He made a tape copy for me in the early 90's since he knew I loved the local music scene.

The teacher's name is Craig Girard and one of the band names I think was "The Insects". One of his bandmates (from one of the two bands) would eventually become the mayor of Saanich. I believe some of the song titles from these two bands were "All of Us", "Get Up and Dance Boy" and "Really Are the Girl For Me" (This last one is on my favorite list). - Tue, 31 Jul 2007 8:27pm

Howdy Islandborn,

If you look under galleries, you'll find a picture of Sugarcane playing that gig with the "New" gym as a backdrop. Also, look up Craig Girard on the musicians list for the answers about the band names and drummer. Glad you are digging the website.
