I like progressive though minimalist and fat grooves. I have not listened to a few of those bands, but mayfield, james brown are fantastic. I love Fela Kuti and stuff like that. I play guitar, bass and drums and have a space in my garage, with a shitty mic and a computer. I am best at guitar (6 years) but am getting better at the drums (a year or so). On the guitar i'm poly-rhythmic and at times experimental, spastic and textured. Influenced heavily by neil young and jimi hendrix. In a funk situation, i like to draw on james brown and fela kuti. On drums, i like to throw down some tight work on the high hat and snare, minimalist, sometimes syncopated, with counter-point melodies. I love to do progressive stuff, get into some 7/8 funks. - Wed, 1 Aug 2007 11:50pm

I could get with the funk thing. Shoot me one at superslacks * yahoo.com and let me know more about your vision. I play guitar, I have a wah pedal, and I know how to use it.
I could also do 7/8, but something tells me that's not really what you're after.
I'm SUPER busy right now, but looking for a project in the fall. - Thu, 2 Aug 2007 3:43pm

Wow! Thanks for all the responses guys. I really didn't think this thread would get much response. I didn't think there was much of a funk scene in Victoria...

I am looking to play some fairly standard funk.. so I do not know about the 7/8 thing.. but I am willing to try. I am looking to start things up in the fall (September) once my friend, Matthew Davidson, returns, who has agreed to play some keys with me.

Once I have spoken more with him, I will probably have a better idea of a start date/type of music to be played.

If any are still interested. pop me an email and I will keep you posted as the situation develops.

YumYumBangBang dood, say hi to Andrea for me.. =) - Tue, 7 Aug 2007 2:24pm

I'm very much into funk music. Mostly guitaring. Can also drum funky. Could also do vocals. Victoria needs more of this sort of thing. Or any. http://www.myspace.com/batteryheadmusic http://www.myspace.com/plumbdumbpyro

One's a band I'm in, the other is just me.

Haha. Were you born on the sun? 7/8 is hot, it's damn hot!

Don't worry. I can repress these progressive urges. The funk flows out of my fingers in any case...

Send me an email if you are still interested, despite my artistic license. - Sat, 11 Aug 2007 2:43pm
