I'm looking for a bassist and keyboardist/pianist for my newest project: "dresscodeboydresscodegirl".

It's an up-tempo rock band that is influenced by a whole slew of bands like: Guided by Voices, Foo Fighters, Sunny Day Real Estate, Modest Mouse, the Decemberists, Neil Young, weakerthans and numerous others.

You should be able to play both all-ages and bar shows (so, 21+ please) and tour throughout the year. A passport is also a must. You also must have loud, reliable, professional gear.

For Bassists:

If you're playing a 2-string pawn shop Squier P-Bass copy with 10 year old strings that is held together with duct tape and baling wire through a 1-watt, solid state Korean micro-amp with speakers made out of toilet paper and spider sugar, I'm honestly not interested. Even if you can play like Jaco while standing on your head blindfolded with one arm behind your back while on fire and covered in bees while getting punched repeatedly in the gut by a boxing kangaroo covered in razorblades, broken glass and rabid squirrels. Seriously.

For Keyboardists:

Though I'd really love it if you had an old Hammond or a Farfisa, there's not really enough room in the van or the jam spot for it. We could probably squeeze a Rhodes or an older Wurli in there if you have one. Other than that, if you have a good synth that does a reasonable facsimile of an old tonewheel organ like a Nord Electro or something similar, that'd be awesome. If you can play play tambourine, that's a plus too.

I've already got loads and loads of material (at least 10 solid songs, about 40 that still need some minor tweaking) and I'm writing new stuff every day, squirreling songs away.

Check out my material at http://www.myspace.com/dresscodeboydresscodegirl and email me at dresscodeboydresscodegirl -at- hotmail -dot- com if you're interested.

I'm not expressing interest in joining but I just want to say, I was expecting to really not like the songs on your myspace, but they're awesome. I love the tasty organ backing in "Right In Your Body", it's really cool. I noticed Jayhawker in your influences. I think I own a Jayhawker 7", although it's been a while since I have pulled it out, I remember it being awesome sort of punk-pushing-boundaries stuff. Anyway good luck in finding someone. I play keys but I'm 19, too busy to dedicate myself to anything as serious as you seem to be, blah blah blah. Anyway good luck. - Fri, 9 Mar 2007 6:20am

pretty sure you don't have to be 21 to play in a bar, you just can't hang around in it before or after. - Fri, 9 Mar 2007 7:27am

Hey guys, thanks for checking everything out.

I agree that you can play bar shows as a minor, but to be honest, it's a drag to sit in the van while everyone else is partying inside. I've been there. It sucks.

But more than that, it's a lot harder to cross foreign borders (read: Europe) as a minor.

For everyone that emailed me, I'm kinda busy this morning, but I should be able to get back you this afternoon...

And Tyler, the Jayhawker 7" is one of my all-time favourites. "Leave the Porch Light On" is one of the best tracks I've ever heard. EVER.

I play bass... but its a piece of catgut on a shovel handle attached to a wash basin with an old telephone piezo electric pickup(as big as your fist-maybe both fists) fed through a Realistic (you know Radio Shack) home built crystal radio converted to an amplifier driving a 1.5 inch speaker.
Good luck. - Fri, 16 Mar 2007 8:32am

Sean, if you weren't looking to take this on the road (or if I was able to follow you on the road) I'd be all over this. I'd be happy to play with you in Victoria, though. (Schedule permitting, of course.) - Sun, 18 Mar 2007 5:40pm
