| MY VICTORIA User Info... |  The Victoria Independent Film Festival is running a 1 minute video competition about downtown Victoria. It is a “let your imagination go wild” competition where everyone regardless of age or skill level or video recording device is encouraged to enter. The competition has few rules except for 1) it must be shot in downtown Victoria and 2) the individual must have the rights to use the music in the video or it must be public domain. Many participants are seeing this music restriction as a real barrier to participation particularly the newbies when they realize owning the album does not qualify as “rights”. My intention is to collect a wide variety of music that can be used for the videos where the artist has already given consent (for this purpose only). I have some music in from Europe artists but it just didn’t seem right to have a My Victoria competition without having local music available, if at all possible. The library would be available at the Festival Office. You may submit as many pieces as you like and the pieces may be as long as you like-whole pieces are not even required as participants will be using 1-2 minutes only as the maximum duration of the video is 2 minutes. MP3 would probably be the most universal format. One thing that would be most helpful is YOUR description of the piece. It would help when I try to categorize the pieces, if required. There is no real deadline as the final submission date for the competition is January 3rd but the sooner music is submitted the better as people are beginning to plan their videos. It would also be helpful if I could let people know that there will be a music library. Submissions can be made to me at [email protected] or at the Festival Office at 808 View Street (at Blanshard).
