Saanich Scattered Artists tour giving back to the community and making it richer
Giving back to the community is a strong focus for the growing number of artists participating in the 12th Annual Scattered Artists Studio Tour. For the first time in this long running event, some of the artists are donating a special piece of their own art to a gift basket that will be given to a very lucky visitor following the tour. There will be entry forms at each location and if you buy a piece of art, you receive another entry…The more locations you visit, and purchase art, the better your chance of winning an amazing selection of local art.
One of the newer members of the tour is Steve Milroy of Wonderworks (featured on CTV March 3), a professional artist for 28 years creating large scale acrylic murals and commercial sculptures. His new passion is producing oil paintings on canvas. His variety of subject matter reflects his desire to “paint a little of everything.” The tour has an amazing range of media for all tastes - fiber art, gourd creations, basketry, watercolour & acrylic paintings, photography & illustration. Scattered Artists’ way of enriching the community is by spreading art to as many places as possible and encouraging a new generation of art collectors - and art makers.
The Scattered Artists are centrally located in Saanich within an area bordered by Hillside, Shelbourne, McKenzie, Swan Lake and Shelbourne. There are 25 artists signed up for the 2015 tour, a significant increase from 16 participants last year. Quite a few of the artists are grouped together in one location as they feel it is more convenient for visitors when one can engage with several artists under one roof; others prefer the more personal touch in their own familiar studio.
