The Death Rays - Twelve Gauge Blues
DTK Records
The Death Rays are a mean sounding rock n roll band with dirty riffs and gravelly singing. There are times when the singer sounds like my crackhead neighbour hacking up a lung, yet not as disgusting, and a lot more rocking. I suppose it depends on what kind of rock you are talking about, but let’s stick with the music variety for the sake of the kids. The Death Rays song topics range from taking drugs and drinking, to taking lots of drugs and drinking. There are also songs about driving fast, probably while on drugs and the drink, but I may be looking into it a bit much. What would rock n roll be without drugs and drinking anyway? Plain jane and no cocaine. And that is exactly what The Death Rays are not. The singer has a completely distinctive voice, and the music grooves. A saxophone shows up on a couple of jams and this was a perfect choice of horn. My only complaint would have been that I would have liked a few more back up vocals, but apart from that I’m giving Twelve Gauge Blues my blessing to get married to your ears. There it is!
