Event Description
Grab your honey bee and boogy down to a fabulous night of funk, motown and disco favourites. musicofmymind, from Garden City Grooves will be spinning vinyl from 9 until 11. Prizes awarded to most elaborate costume (think disco and funk ...sequins, big hair, fur, bell bottoms and snazzy suits) as well as funkiest dance moves.
There will also be an opportunity to bid on some fabulous goods and services supplied by local businesses in a silent auction.
This is a fundraising event in partnership with PODA (Partnerships for Opportunities Development Association) an NGO and grass roots collaboration that strives to support sustainable development in communities in Uganda. Their projects aim to empower African communities with sustainable revenue building and educational opportunities. The profits generated by this fundraiser will go to 2 of their many innovative projects:
The community beekeeping initiative- Helping buy new hives, bee suits and a smoker as well as providing village residents with apiary training. This program is both revenue generating and conservationist, as the bees keep elephants out of agricultural areas in turn protecting them from potential poaching.
Sewing project- Supplying sewing machines and materials for reusable pads, so female students have equal opportunity of education as well as repairing student uniforms.
