I'm a 21 year old musician and i have realized if i am ever to hear the funk that i so badly need, that i must make it happen myself. therefore i am starting what will become the finest Funk group out of this city in 400 years. that's the plan at least. First of all i need some muscians. I am looking for an aray of talented young musicians who can sit in a groove for upwards of ten hours, but more likely 7 minutes. James Brown's "JB's" are going to be the main influence, 1970-74. With various styles thrown in to mix it up and make it interesting. Heavy funky grooves to make the ladies wet. After all, isn't that what music is all about?

I am going to need:
1 Guitar: (rhythmic crunchy biting chords and little soloing);

funky keys: rhythmic and grooving;

Drums: one or two kits with so much soul you can't help but move;

Percusion: (congas, tamborine, latin instruments to add to the unbearable groove)if there are going to be two drummers one can play kit sometimes the other percusion, or both or whatever depending on the feeling we need;

3ish Horns: Tenor, alto, and trumpet i think, perhaps more, (a bone or two)tight solid players with some improvising background and a good sense of time.

I do play bass but i think i am looking to front this band so if you can play super funk and are into bootsy then let me know.

Also if you have soul, and you're super bad and want to front a funk band let me know as well.

7-9 musicians perhaps. superheavyfunk. i know some people i am looking for already, they will be contacted. if you are interested email me asap, i want it now. The sooner i get this funk and the need to preform it out, the more sane i can be. [email protected] - Tue, 22 Mar 2005 2:26pm

The original idea I had yesterday was an all funk band just playing James Brown style music with no deviance from the super heavy funk. Now, with some time for reflection I think that a varried repitoire would work best: old school straight ahead funk, new school hip hop grooves (outkastesque), 60's rock funk (Rolling Stones, let it bleed sort of thing). Really, any sort of good music that anyone is into and will make people dance and move. GOOD, REAL, MUSIC. No limitations.

I am very serious about this. I need to preform, it hurts me not to. So alittle about myself? I Have been playing bass for ten years and went through the Esquimalt high jazz program where I had some pretty great learning experiances. I have been gigging pretty consistantly since I was 15 (6years) and my organizational skillz are exceptional (very important in a bigger band). I am a strong leader and feel that with the help of some dedicated talented muscians a formitable band can be created. If you are interested please Email me back Asap. I want to get this idea off the ground before the summer so we can play shows all summer long. thank you for taking the time to read this even if you aren't interested.

P.S. A 24oz. bottle of liquor to the one who comes up with the name that is used. Not that I'm a big drinker, I just think that might be some good motivation. - Thu, 24 Mar 2005 2:39pm

Hey Bass PLucker,
you stole my drummer and guitarist and now I'm pissed... I'm in a band with the two guys you recruited outta that basement suite a few days ago. Anyways if you need a rhythm guitarist to complement tony's soloing then let me know. I've been gigging for five years and I have a lot of experience. I'm solid on rhythm but I'm currently playing bass and doing vocal harmonies in this band. Let me know, and also if you'rew willing to teach some bass lessons so I can learn proper technique and some new chops let me know.

Okay things are going well so far, I have had responses from quite a number of people and have assembled several musicians now. I have got: One percussionist named Dave. I have got a guitarist named Nathan. I have got a sax player named Rhys who rips shit up, and am currently auditioning a number of other players to fill up the remaining spots. Seeing as I really can't sing at a level i am happy with I am going to take the bass role on, and accordingly I need some singers now. Any one who wants to be a backup singer(3 People) or a front singer(these spots may rotate for different songs). I still have had no luck finding a pianist which I think is really important, so anyone who plays the funky keys or has a strong technical background from another style and would like to give it a whurl let me know. Also I need a bari sax, tenor and a trumpet still. Thanks to everyone who has talked to me keep it coming,
I gots ta move on up. - Tue, 29 Mar 2005 2:01pm
